Sacchi calls for boldness from Serie A coaches

Former AC Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi has called for more boldness from Italian managers.

Sacchi believes there's several non-fashionable coaches who deserve to be celebrated.

"In Italy there is too much pessimism. I pushed hard in my day to point out a victory without merit is not a victory, but we still need to learn that lesson," Sacchi told Milan Channel.

"Marco van Basten always asked me why for other teams it was alright just to win, but we had to be convincing too.

"Many said my Milan was among the best teams of all time. A while back, Billy Costacurta was watching one of the Under-21 games and said everyone copied us, except for in Italy.

"Lately there is a group of more optimistic Coaches who go to play the game for real, without too many tactics. They need to be more courageous, even if it's not easy.

"For example, I could cite Maurizio Sarri at Empoli, Eusebio Di Francesco at Sassuolo, Rafa Benitez at Napoli, Cagliari's Zdenek Zeman and Sampdoria's Sinisa Mihajlovic, who play the game all over the field."
