RSL captain Beckerman relishing new Western Conference challenge

Real Salt Lake skipper Kyle Beckerman feels his side can again be a major player in Major League Soccer this year.

The Royals made it to the Western Conference semi-finals in 2014 which came after their runners-up finish in 2013, adding to a finish of at least fifth place in their region every year since 2007.

RSL have been one of the most consistent teams in MLS over the last seven years and star midfielder Beckerman is expecting more of the same in 2015.

"I'm looking forward to this year. I think there are a lot of exciting things that can happen for Real Salt Lake," the USA international told TWC Deportes.

"We had a lot of changes this year, but I feel pretty good about where we could be.

"I think there's no reason why the Real Salt Lake that we've seen in the past that's been competitive in every aspect. I feel we can continue to be in those conversations."

Beckerman also indicated that he believes the Western Conference will be even more of a raffle this year with perennial achievers LA Galaxy and Seattle Sounders at the forefront while Sporting Kansas City and Houston Dynamo have joined the race after being switched from the East following the expansion of Orlando City SC and New York City FC.

"The Western Conference is going to be a bloodbath," he added.

"We're all going to be fighting for those six spots in the playoffs. It should be really exciting. I'm looking forward to the challenge."
