Ross County manager Derek Adams is looking to lure Mehdi Abeid from Newcastle United.
The 20-year old French-Algerian midfielder is out of contract at St James' Park in the summer with Adams looking to land him ahead of St Johnstone where he is currently on loan.
"He's someone we are interested in but whether we can get him is a different matter," Adams told the Daily Record.
"We have made contact with Newcastle and we'll see what happens.
"He is technically gifted and likes to drive forward from midfield. He can score goals and create chances.
"He is also the right age. I was impressed with him in the game against us, but I was aware of him before then and watched him a few times."
