John Rooney is expecting to return to MLS in January.

Former Macclesfield attacker Rooney, the younger brother of Manchester United star Wayne Rooney, had trials with several MLS clubs last month, including Seattle Sounders.

Rooney is currently training with Tranmere Rovers and could be offered a contract.

But its understood Rooney is only interested in a short-term deal to keep up his match fitness before returning to the 'States in January.
