The Foxtel A-League All-Stars match against Manchester United has been dealt a blow with news that Wayne Rooney will not travel to Australia.
The England international has returned to Manchester from United's tour of the Far East because of a hamstring injury which will sideline him for around a month meaning he will not be available for the July 20 clash with the Premier League champions.
"Following a scan this evening on a hamstring injury sustained in training, it has been decided Wayne Rooney should return home immediately for further assessment and rehabilitation," United said in a statement.
United meet the Singha All-Stars in Bangkok, Thailand on Saturday to kick off their Asian tour before heading down under for the A-League meeting at ANZ Stadium in Sydney.
After that, they take on Yokohama F. Marinos in Yokohama, Japan on July 23, Cerezo Osaka in Osaka, Japan on July 26, Kitchee FC in Hong Kong on July 29 and AIK in Stockholm, Sweden on August 6.
