Ronaldo urged to make Cavani offer for Man Utd No7 shirt

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony believes Cristiano Ronaldo should make Edinson Cavani an offer for his No7 Manchester United shirt.

There is hope that the Premier League may grant United special dispensation that would allow the five-time Ballon d'Or winner to reclaim the No7 shirt. Now that Daniel James has left the club, Cavani may opt to take the No.21 shirt - the number he wears for Uruguay - and allow Ronaldo to take No7.

MacAnthony told Sky Sports: "In the NFL, players are allowed to buy each other's off themselves. They buy them for £100-£150,000.

"Tom Brady - TB12 - I think he came in [to] Tampa Bay and bought the number, gave him a new car whatever. If I was Ronaldo, I'd say to Cavani 'look, what can we do about this', because it's important to Cristiano and the Premier League as well.

"The Premier League would probably have to give dispensation because it's good for business, it's good for the Premier League, you've got one of the best players ever lived coming back to finish his career in the Premier League, again it's a bit like Michael Jordan those numbers are iconic.

"I hope he gets it, even as a Liverpool fan."
