Real Madrid's Gareth Bale insists he wants to forge his own path in football.
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are arguably the two best players in world football at the moment and many now feel that Bale could soon take up the mantle once the superstar duo go past their peak.
However, Bale is not overly concerned about emulating either Messi or Ronaldo and has gone on to state that he is currently looking to forge his own path in the sport.
"He has obviously set the standard for football, him and Messi, but I feel like I'm on my own journey," the Wales ace told talkSPORT as he prepares for Wednesday night's Euro2016 semi-final with Portugal.
"I'm trying to achieve what I can achieve and I feel like I'm on a good path. I'm improving every season and hopefully I'll continue to do that and hopefully play in a major tournament final for my country.
"For me, that [talk of his 'rivalry' with Ronaldo] doesn't matter too much. It's about Wales vs Portugal. It's about 11 v 11. It's about the best team on the night, not the best individuals, and hopefully we can come out on top."
