Rome council approve AS Roma stadium construction

Rome's local council have approved plans for construction to AS Roma's new stadium to begin.

The vote passed after a lengthy meeting yesterday.

"Congratulations to all Romans on this historic day," said Roma president James Pallotta.

"We all look forward to playing in Roma's new stadium."

The investment will be worth €1.2bn and the privately finances Stadio della Roma can create at least 3,000 jobs during the construction phase and at least that many during the on-going operations of the complex.

"We thank Mayor Marino and the entire administration of the city of Rome," added CEO Mark Pannes.

"We fully embrace this opportunity and pledge our complete and on-going commitment to bring this very special project to life."
