Roma have revived their interest in Toulouse fullback Jeremy Mathieu.
The left-sided defender almost joined Roma last year before suffering long-term injury after he was priced out of the move by his French club.
Mathieu has only just returned to first team action in recent weeks and Roma have again been tracking his form, posting a scout to check on the left-back in Toulouse's victory over Monaco last week.
Toulouse are insisting on £4.5 million for Mathieu, though Roma hope to talk them down to around £3.5 million.
Corriere dello Sport says Roma chiefs see Mathieu as a better prospect than Catania left-back Juan Vargas.
