Chris Smalling is enjoying life with Roma.

The England defender is in advanced talks to sign a new deal with the Europa League finalists.

Smalling told Star Casino Sport: "One of the reasons why I'm still in Roma is the affection of the fans and that of my team-mates. The fans?

"There aren't many other teams in Italy with a packed stadium. In every match, whether the opponent is at the top or bottom of the table, the stadium is always full and it's amazing to have such a following."

On his former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, Smalling also said: "I've known him for some time, we won together in Manchester so it was nice to meet familiar faces again, I'm talking about his coaching staff.

"I knew him before he arrived in Rome and it didn't take him long to win a trophy that we've been waiting for for a long time. The relationship with him is excellent, I won with him in England and now I want to do it in Italy.

"He is a person who always wants to win, he is not satisfied with a trophy and that is the mentality we must have. His experience is precious for us."
