Roma coach Fonseca happy with performance for Atalanta draw

Roma coach Paulo Fonseca was satisfied with their 1-1 draw against Atalanta.

After Robin Gosens saw red for Atalanta, Roma attacker Bryan Cristante was able to cancel out the Ruslan Malinovskyi opener.

“Playing against these teams is difficult, but we made mistakes in the decisive moments," said Fonseca to DAZN.

“We didn't win, but we did put in a good performance against a great team. Don't forget, Atalanta won eight of their last nine games coming in and we decided to risk with a high press, not allowing Atalanta to build their moves in the usual way.

“We played better in the second half and the team showed character. I haven't seen any team take on Atalanta and dominate possession."

Borja Mayoral came on for the final stages as a partner to Edin Dzeko, but Fonseca warns that won't be seen from the start.

“We already tried and it didn't work. The team is not ready to play with two centre-forwards. It's not important how many strikers you use, but also the players who create the moves. We have only one day to prepare every game and can't afford such a big change."
