Roma team manager Morgan De Sanctis has confirmed they're in talks to sign permanently Manchester United defender Chris Smalling.

Smalling is on a season-long loan with Roma.

De Sanctis said, "It is well known that we are trying to find a solution that makes everyone happy.

"We are in no rush, we want to get this right, and can also rely on the player, who said he is happy at Roma."

He added: “The coach has been very clear in his directives and the players working hard to absorb his teachings. We have been able to create a sense of consistency even with many players missing, as the group has a unity about it."
