AS Roma are closing on a deal for Liverpool fullback Glen Johnson. The England international comes off contract in June and talks over a new deal have stalled.

Johnson is free to commit to a pre-contract with a foreign club from January 1 and talks with Roma have been ongoing for some weeks.

Transfer expert Alfredo Pedulla says negotiations are now at an advanced stage, which will see Johnson sign a pre-contract ahead of joining Roma in June.

Roma already boast former England fullback Ashley Cole on their books.
