Roma and Man Utd still haggling over final Smalling fee

AS Roma are struggling to reach a price with Manchester United for Chris Smalling.

Calciomercato.com says the 30-year-old has enjoyed a successful season in the Italian capital, making 35 appearances across all competitions and scoring twice.

The Red Devils have set an asking price of £18.2million for Smalling - who is contracted at Old Trafford until 2022 - but Roma are only willing to pay £16.3million.

Smalling's current loan deal with Roma comes to an end in early August and Juventus, Napoli and Inter Milan are all monitoring the situation.

The two-time Premier League winner and his family have taken well to life in Italy and would like to extend their stay.

And Roma are hopeful that United will let him leave for a lower price in light of his desire to remain in the country.
