Rodrygo defends Real Madrid teammate Varane after Man City howlers

Rodrygo Goes defended Real Madrid teammate Raphael Varane after his blunders in defeat at Manchester City.

Rodrygo was given a surprise start in Real Madrid's 2-1 defeat away at City on Friday night, yet much of the post-match discussion surrounded the two mistakes Varane made that led to both of City's goals.

As such, Los Blancos lost 4-2 on aggregate and have been dumped out of the Champions League, but Rodrygo did not want to make too much of Varane's mistakes.

"It's something that happens sometimes," Rodrygo said in his post-match interview.

"It's a pity, but he's a great player and I don't think this is going to stain the legacy he has at Real Madrid."

In terms of his thoughts on the game, the 19-year-old admitted that Real Madrid found it difficult to get the ball in the back of the net.

"[I feel] sad, but we fought until the end," Rodrygo said.

"It was hard for us to score because they're a great team.

"They are very strong here [at home]."
