Rodriguez fires for Burnley to sink troubled Watford

Jay Rodriguez's second-half strike helped Burnley secure a 1-0 victory over Watford.

The Englishman rose and glanced a header at the near post to give the Clarets all three points.

The win gives Burnley a great chance of finishing in the top-half after surpassing the 40-point threshold.

It isn't such good news for Watford who now have one win in their last nine outings, which leaves them one point above the drop zone.

Speaking after the game, Pearson said: "One of the dangers is that other people can judge how easy or hard the game is going to be, the status and positionally where people are.

"Whenever you play one of Sean's teams you know it is going to be a tough game and we knew they would be smarting from the result against City.

"I think we would be doing a club like Burnley a disservice if there was a suggestion that they wouldn't go into games like this with anything other 100 per cent intention of winning the game."
