Rodgers: Liverpool showed character, spirit, determination in Norwich win

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was complimentary of his players for their winning display at Norwich City on Sunday.

The Reds extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points by beating the Canaries 3-2 at Carrow Road courtesy of a Raheem Sterling double.

The 19-year old scored in the fourth and 62nd minutes, either side of Luis Suarez's 30th league goal of the campaign, while Gary Hooper made it 2-1 in the 54th minute before Robert Snodgrass added a second for the home side after Sterling's second.

After the victory, which has the Anfield club within striking distance of a first Premier League title, Rodgers spoke highly of the way his side went about things to end tough week for the club which included the commemorative service for the 96 fans who lost their life at the Hillsborough stadium tragedy 25 years ago.

"We showed great quality and were nerveless in our possession and control, but credit to Norwich because they changed their shape for the second half and got the goal which gave the crowd a lift," said Rodgers.

"It was always going to be tough after that, but we showed everything again, the quality of our movement and play was exceptional.

"We had to show character, resilience and determination, which we did in bundles.

"It was a big victory and congratulations to the players because we can finish no lower than third, which guarantees Champions League football, and at the start of the season everyone thought it would be a struggle for us to get to fourth, so it shows the magnitude of the effort the players have put in."
