Rodgers hails Leicester resilience as Fofana goal eliminates Rennes

Wesley Fofana's second-half goal has been enough for Leicester City to overcome Rennes and reach the Europa Conference League quarter-finals.

After winning the first leg at home 2-0, Leicester saw their advantage halved when Benjamin Bourigeaud scored for Rennes after just eight minutes.

But Fofana, playing for the first time since breaking a leg in a pre-season friendly against Villarreal in August, headed in Ademola Lookman's corner to equalise.

Flavien Tait gave Rennes some hope when he put his side ahead 2-1 with 15 minutes remaining.

Kasper Schmeichel was proved the hero for Leicester when he denied Serhou Guirassy with a fine save in the 85th minute.

"I think with the ball we were really, really poor," manager Brendan Rodgers said post-game. "Our football in the game, especially in the first half, was nowhere near what I would expect. What we did show tonight was real character, especially with players missing and lots of young players tasting this level for the first time. It's character building for them.

"We had to show resilience. You can see they're a good side, Rennes, so to get through is a fantastic feeling. We knew they were going to make a fast start and come after us. They got the early goal as well, but we showed a good mentality, a good concentration level."
