Rochdale have offered a fresh chance to former Newcastle striker Nile Ranger.

The Sun says he has been offered a way back into football by Rochdale after his off-the-field troubles.

Boss Keith Hill gave the striker, 27, a secret trial last week and hopes he will take the chance to sign.

Ranger played for Newcastle before disciplinary issues blighted spells with Swindon, Blackpool and Southend.

The former England Under-19 star has had regular brushes with the law since he was 16.

But when he was axed by his last club Southend in January it was because of his poor timekeeping.
