Rochdale boss Barry-Murphy: We wanted Newcastle

Rochdale boss Brian Barry-Murphy says they're up for an upset against FA Cup opponents Newcastle United.

Speaking with Chronicle Live, Barry-Murphy has been talking up the cup tie.

“We all wanted to play against Newcastle. It is going to be great for Rochdale," he said.

“It is the first time the two clubs have met so it is going to be one of those occasions where we are giving the supporters something they haven't experienced before.

“We have had unbelievable support from our fans in the cups and they always turn out in numbers on these big occasions.

“Obviously, Newcastle fans are renowned for their huge support and to see our stadium full to the rafters will be great for everyone associated with the club.

“It fills me with pride and like I said after the Man United game, it was like a cup final for the whole town.

“That will be the same for the Newcastle game. It will be a thrilling occasion and I really can't wait."
