Robinson happy for ex-Burnley teammate Pope over Newcastle move: Why he's so good...

Paul Robinson has praised Newcastle for signing former Burnley teammate Nick Pope.

England goalkeeper Pope moved to Newcastle last week.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “He has an outstanding work ethic. He constantly wants to improve himself.

“The time I spent with him at Burnley, I cannot remember him missing any training. His reactions are excellent. He makes unorthodox saves. He is a tall, big lad and people think that could be awkward but he finds a way.

“Over the years he has developed his own technique and has learned how to be a goalkeeper in his own body, if that makes sense. There has been criticism levelled at him over his feet but he works really hard on that. I think he still needs to work on his left foot but his distribution has improved no end. His long kicking is as good as anyone in the Premier League.

“He is very commanding of his box as well. He is such a big character. He is loud and vocal. What I like about him is, if he misjudges a cross and gets it wrong it does not put him off. He will come out and take the next one.

“Newcastle fans will see him make saves that are out of this world. He is so big and agile. He will take Newcastle onto the next level."
