Robertson: Liverpool players knew Villarreal couldn't sustain first-half energy

Liverpool fullback Andrew Robertson says there was confidence Villarreal would run out of steam last night.

Villarreal jumped to a 2-0 lead at halftime of the second-leg of their Champions League semifinal to bring the aggregate score level at 2-2. But Liverpool turned things around after the break to win 2-3 on the night.

Afterwards, Robertson said: "An incredibly tough tie – players, fans everyone around the club should never take anything like this for granted.

"At half-time we were calm, we had to be. They put everything into their first half but we had to remind ourselves that it was only 2-2, that the next goal would be vital. We speak about our home fans but they played really well and their fans were right behind them.

"But we would have been surprised if they'd managed to sustain that."
