RKC Waalwijk midfielder Meulensteen on ex-Man Utd teammate Rashford: He knew how good he was

Former Manchester United midfielder Melle Meulensteen has recalled coming through the club's academy.

The son of former United assistant manager Rene Meulensteen, Melle is currently with RKC Waalwijk.

He told Voetbalzone: "I don't think many guys can say they got to play at Manchester United. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot from it. I always keep that close to me.

"There are so many good players out there, that just makes you better. I played with guys like Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay. Also with guys who are now playing in the Championship. A lot of those guys made it. But there are also boys who have completely disappeared from football, while people had very high expectations for them. So you see that it can go both ways.

"Rashford was always one of the best. But he also knew of himself that he was good. You saw him do things in training that other guys couldn't. His speed, for example, he already had in the past. He learned the technique in midfield. Later he started playing as a winger."
