River Plate coach Marcelo Gallardo is being considered for the vacant manager's job at Everton.

The Mirror says Gallardo is refusing to confirm whether he will remain as manager of South American giants River Plate until after this week's Argentina Cup final.

The struggling Goodison club have identified Gallardo as a possible successor to sacked Marco Silva.

And Gallardo will become a free agent after River Plate face Central Cordoba on Friday night.

The 43-year-old has been employed on a rolling one-year deal since becoming River Plate boss in 2014.

He has told club bosses that he will tell them whether he will be continuing into next season after the cup-final.
