The Belgium international signed a four-year contract with Leicester, who broke their transfer record to land Tielemans, 22, from Monaco for £40million.
And according to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett, Tielemans snubbed a move to United after a chat with Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers.
“I understand he gave up the chance of a possible move to Manchester United," Dorsett told Sky Sports. “He told his agent he wants to sign for Leicester now rather than wait until the end of the window and see whether United came in for him.
“His agent was keen to wait incase bigger clubs came in for him. In particular, he was waiting to see whether Paul Pogba left United for Juventus of Real Madrid because there have been reports saying United would come in for Tielemans if he left."
