REVEALED: Wolves failed to land Rubin Kazan striker Azmoun on deadline day

Wolves failed to reach terms with Rubin Kazan on deadline day over a deal for Sardar Azmoun.

The Daily Mail says it is understood Kazan wanted an obligation to buy in the summer following an initial loan, but Wolves were reluctant to commit to that now. The deal discussed was a £1.75m loan fee, plus £11.4m purchase.

The 24-year-old has been dubbed the 'Iranian Messi' in his homeland and spearheaded Iran's run to the Asian Cup semi-final this month, scoring four goals in six games before they were beaten 3-0 by Japan.

After a loan spell at Rostov in 2015-16, he joined on permanent terms the following season before Kazan bought him back.
