REVEALED: Tottenham turned down Coutinho deal on deadline day

Tottenham could've ended the summer market with a deal for Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho, it has been revealed.

The Mirror says Spurs pulled out of signing Coutino on transfer deadline day - because the loan fee Barcelona demanded was too high.

And Tottenham's rivals Arsenal were also scared off by the cost of a season-long loan for Coutinho , which would have been a whopping £40million.

That would have comprised a staggering £30million transfer fee demanded by Barcelona, plus the Brazilian attacker's wages of almost £1million per month.

It was more than Tottenham were willing to pay - and it was also too much for Arsenal, who were offered Coutinho in last-gasp effort by Barca to get him off their books after Mauricio Pochettino's side pulled out of the deal.

Coutinho played under Spurs boss Pochettino at Espanyol before joining Liverpool in 2013.
