Sheffield United failed with a summer move for Genk midfielder Sander Berge, it has been revealed.
The Norway international has emerged from a first Champions League campaign as one of the most coveted players in Europe, where he is interesting both former group rivals Liverpool and Napoli.
HLN says things could've been very different for Berge at the beginning of the season when United bid €25m for his transfer.
Genk were willing to do business, but Berge turned the move down - a decision which is set to reap dividends both for the club and player given his impact in European competition.
The Blades are unlikely to try again with Berge making it clear he is now planning to join a Champions League club when he leaves Belgium.
