Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane passed on the chance to sign Bruno Fernandes before his move to Manchester United.
Sporting Lisbon were ready to sanction his departure in the summer as they looked to raise funds.
Real were reportedly offered first refusal and got quoted a £64m asking price.
Nevertheless, Real opted not to splash the cash having just spent big on Eden Hazard from Chelsea. Instead, Fernandes ended up at Manchester United in January.
It's also suggested Zidane's obsession with snaring Paul Pogba from United meant he blocked Fernandes' arrival.
