PSG were willing to double Ivan Rakitic's wages at Barcelona, it has been revealed.

Sport says agent agent acting on behalf of PSG have been talking with Rakitic's minders for the past fortnight.

A salary worth €8m was on the table - at least double Rakitic's current pay - but it wasn't enough for the Croatian. Knowing it would still leave him at the lower rung of PSG's pay-scale, Rakitic insisted upon more.

But Barca also shut down PSG's push, refusing to consider any approach from the French mega spenders for the midfielder.

And on Saturday, after victory at Real Valladolid, Rakitic confirmed PSG had made an attempt but he would be sticking with the Catalans.
