REVEALED: Private jet; promises made - but Godin left Man Utd fuming

Manchester United chiefs remain furious with Atletico Madrid captain Diego Godin over his behaviour in the final days of the summer market.

The Mirror says United thought they had landed one of Jose Mourinho's targets on August 8 when they triggered Godin's £18million buy-out clause.

They even borrowed a private jet on deadline day to bring the defender to England.

After getting assurances that the 32-year-old wanted to come to Old Trafford, they made arrangements to fly the Uruguayan into Manchester from his holiday base in Sardinia to complete the move the following day.

But they had to cancel the plane when Godin informed them that Atletico had responded to United's interest by offering him a two-year contract extension on improved wages of £130,000-a-week.
