REVEALED: Phelan clash led to Lukaku Man Utd sale

A bust-up with Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan led to Romelu Lukaku leaving for Inter Milan.

The Sun says his fate at United was sealed after a massive row with Phelan about missing a bus during their pre-season tour of the Far East.

The United players had been told to assemble on the third floor of the team hotel in Shanghai so security could do a head check before they went to the stadium.

They were extra vigilant as they were then due to go straight to the airport after the game against Spurs.

Everyone was present but when a second head count was done on the bus there was one player missing – Lukaku.

Security informed Solskjaer he was missing but his furious assistant Phelan told the bus driver to forget him and drive off to the stadium.

Lukaku had to make his own way to the stadium where he berated one of the security men for allowing the bus to leave without him.

At that point Phelan marched over and intervened and told him that it had been his call.

He also laid into the player, telling him he deserved it and questioned his professionalism.
