Lille defender Gabriel has been convinced about joining Arsenal by the passion of their fans.

The Brazilian centre back is on the brink of sealing a £27million move to Arsenal from French side Lille as Mikel Arteta continues planning for the future at the Emirates.

The Telegraph reports Arteta has Arsenal fans to thank somewhat for getting the deal over the line amid heavy interest elsewhere.

The illustrious history of the north London side appealed to Gabriel but in an intriguing twist, it is believed that the 22-year-old was also convinced into joining by the club's fans.

With teams vying for his signature, including Manchester United and Napoli too, he had been bombarded by messages from Arsenal fans on social media urging him to join the club - which reportedly helped him come to his decision with him feeling wanted.
