REVEALED: Man Utd were interested in Ake before Man City swoop

Manchester United were interested in signing Nathan Ake from Bournemouth, but did not challenge his move to Manchester City.

The Red Devils want a left-sided centre-back who is quick and can play alongside Harry Maguire or Victor Lindelof.

But Sky Sports claims United were unable to raise the necessary funds for Ake before City swooped.

They are devoting a lot of money to securing Jadon Sancho, and they would not have had the money to buy Ake without selling their own players.

United will try and sell defenders, including Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, to fund further defensive moves.
