REVEALED: Man Utd keeper De Gea has now conceded 40 consecutive spotkicks

After the Europa League final defeat, Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has now failed to save 40 consecutive penalties.

Villarreal defeated United in a penalty shootout 11-10 on Wednesday night, with De Gea missing the decisive spotkick.

De Gea last saved a penalty for either Manchester United or Spain in April 2016, when he stopped a spotkick from Everton's Romelu Lukaku in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Since then, the Spanish goalkeeper has not saved a single penalty.

In regular matches, as many as 25 penalties in a row have passed the goalkeeper, and if you include Spain's loss on penalty kicks against Russia in the 2018 World Cup, he had conceded 29 penalties in a row before Wednesday's Europa League final.
