Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho regrets signing Alexis Sanchez last season, it has been claimed.

The Times says Mourinho has privately admitted he would have preferred the Red Devils to have signed Ivan Perisic in the summer of 2017.

The Portuguese coach still regrets the club's failure to sign the Croatia international – with CEO Ed Woodward reportedly refusing to stump up an extra £5m – and believes his skillset would have been a better fit.

Perisic shone during the World Cup as his nation reached the final with rumours that United were after him once more.

Mourinho reportedly believes the Inter Milan star has better crossing ability than Sanchez and that would have been key to provide service to the likes of Romelu Lukaku.
