Manchester United boss Louis van Vaal attempted to contact Marco Reus before the Borussia Dortmund star penned his new deal last week.BILD says Van Gaal made a personal phone call to Reus, but couldn't get through to the Germany midfielder.
Reus refused to speak to any other side about a January switch away from Dortmund.
And last week, he penned a new four-year deal with the Bundesliga strugglers, which includes the removal of a £20m release clause.
