Liverpool failed with an offer for Sporting CP wing-back Nuno Mendes over the summer, it has been revealed.
O Jogo says before signing Kosta Tsimikas from Olympiacos, Liverpool made a move for youngster Mendes.
The Reds tabled €22m for the left-back - which was immediately turned down by Sporting.
Mendes is now in new contract talks with Sporting about an improved and extended new deal. The teen is on a salary of €140,000 and Sporting are offering a pay-rise to €250,000.
The club also wish to raise his buyout clause from €45m to €60m.
