Liverpool had been following Diogo Jota for four years before making their move this summer for the former Wolves striker.
The Times says Portugal winger Jota has hit the ground running since joining the Reds from Wolves for £40m.
But his early success may not have been as much of a surprise to those inside the club, who have been keeping tabs on him since 2016, according to The Times.
It's thought that Liverpool first took note of Jota during his time on loan at Porto, before he went on to impress for Wolves.
The Reds were keen to sign him at the end of the 2018/19 season after seeing a summary of his first year in the Premier League.
But his lack of experience in England and recent move on a permanent basis to Wolves put them off making a move.
Their persistence appears to have paid off now though, with Jota now looked on as one of the standout performers this season, despite not starting many games.
