The agent of Paulo Dybala was in the office of Manchester United vice-chairman Ed Woodward last summer as the Juventus striker pulled out of the deal.
The attacker's representative, Jorge Antun, was at United's London office locked in discussions with the executive vice chairman when he was informed by the player to pull out of the deal, according to reporter Fabrizio Romano.
The Juventus star rung Antun during the meeting and told him of his desire to stay in Italy, citing his love for the club and his lack of concern for a big money move to the Premier League.
There were also negotiations in place between the Juve and United for Romelu Lukaku to head to Turin, but the striker ended up heading to Serie A rivals Inter Milan instead.
Dybala actually visited London in January, where he posted pictures of him and his girlfriend Oriana Sabatini, posing just outside Tower Bridge.
So far this season, the 26-year-old has netted a total of 12 times for Juventus, making it a total of 90 goals for the Italian giants.
