REVEALED: Diogo Jota was Liverpool's second choice behind Watford winger Sarr

Liverpool star Diogo Jota was their second choice signing for the attacking spot in the summer.

The Reds did want to sign a back up attacker to lift the pressure on the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

However, the Mirror reports Jota, who has been in excellent scoring form since arriving, was not the main target.

Liverpool initially went for Watford attacker Ismaila Sarr, but decided against it due to the asking price.

Watford wanted £45 million and most of it up front.

The Jota fee is similar, but the Reds only paid around 10 percent of that fee up front.
