Sacked Chelsea boss Frank Lampard wanted to move for Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last season, it has been revealed.

Lampard was dumped by Chelsea on Monday morning.

The Athletic reports Lampard asked his board to sign Emerick Aubameyang last January.

Lampard felt the striker could be an ideal addition for the Blues before he penned a long-term contract.

Yet the report adds that the board didn't grant his request – with Timo Werner eventually arriving from RB Leipzig instead over the summer.
