Thiago Alcantara rejected the chance of a return to Barcelona to sign for Liverpool, it has been revealed.

The former Bayern Munich midfielder joined the Reds last week ahead of making a winning debut at Chelsea on Sunday.

But Cadena SER says he could easily have signed for Barca in the days leading up to his switch to Anfield.

While taking his summer break in Barcelona, Thiago was approached by Barca representative Javier Bordas and made an offer. Thiago politely listened to the proposal, but declined.

The former Barca B star signed for the Reds in a €30m deal.
