REVEALED: Barcelona made Aubameyang contact before Arsenal deal penned

Arsenal fought off serious interest from Barcelona to secure Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to a new contract.

The Gabon ace penned a new contract earlier this month, but not before having his head turned by Barca, reports Le 10 Sport.

Barca moved for the striker after being frustrated in negotiations with Inter Milan for Lautaro Martinez. The Catalans were prepared to cough up a decent fee for Aubameyang as they pushed to prise him away.

However, Aubameyang was eventually convinced to stay and sign new terms after extensive talks with manager Mikel Arteta.

Along with Arsenal being prepared to match his personal demands, Aubameyang's relationship with Arteta was also a key factor in convincing him to stay.
