REVEALED: Arteta and Edu only agreed on one Arsenal summer signing

Arsenal manage Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu only agreed on one signing this summer, it has been revealed.

The Gunners were pretty quick off the mark to bring in full-back Nuno Tavares, before promising midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga followed from Anderlecht.

Then Ben White arrived from Brighton in a blockbuster deal worth £50million, becoming Arsenal's third-highest signing of all time.

After months of speculation, Martin Odegaard's return was finally sealed on a permanent basis, while Aaron Ramsdale was next through the door after Arsenal managed to strike an agreement with Sheffield United.

And then the summer spree was completed with a deadline day swoop for Takehiro Tomayasi from Bologna.

The Athletic reports it was only Odegaard's signing that the pair were in absolute agreement on.

In the cases of Tavares and Lokonga these both came from Edu and his scouting team, who felt they would be solid additions to Arteta's squad.

There was a clear discrepancy between him and Edu in the pursuit of Ramsdale, who Sheffield United were demanding a hefty figure for.

Edu was trying to persuade Arteta that Arsenal would be better off bringing in a cheaper alternative, given it would only be as a back-up to Bernd Leno, with Barcelona stopper Neto put forward for consideration.

However, Arteta was insistent that Ramsdale was the man he wanted - supported by valued opinions from his coaching team.
