REVEALED: Arsenal boss Arteta wanted Matviyenko at Man City

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is using information from previous club Manchester City to move for Shakhtar Donetsk defender Mykola Matviyenko.

That's according to Matviyenko's agent Yuriy Danchenko, who claims he has been in talks with Arsenal all week in regards to selling the Shakhtar Donetsk centre-back.

Arsenal are in desperate need of strengthening their defence, and have been linked to a whole host of stars including Dayot Upamecano and Jerome Boateng.

TEAM1 says Arsenal boss Arteta - who was assistant at Man City under Pep Guardiola - encouraged the Citizens to sign Matviyenko.

City missed out on doing so, and now that the Spaniard is in charge of the Gunners, it appears he is interested in signing the defender for Arsenal.

Arteta had a look at the centre-back in action in Shakhtar's two Champions League matches with Manchester City this season.
