Returning Rodriguez scores brace for Southampton

Jay Rodriguez returned from a serious knee injury to net a double in Southampton's pre-season friendly loss to RB Leipzig on Wednesday.

The 25-year old striker had been sidelined for more than a year before netting twice on his comeback as the Saints lost to the German 2.Bundesliga side 5-4.

Rodriguez, who sustained a cruciate ligament injury in April 2014, scored from close range with his left foot and also with his head to add to goals from summer signings Juanmi and Cedric Soares which delighted manager Ronald Koeman.

Saints boss Koeman told the club's official website: "I'm happy about the minutes and the physical game what we had. We scored some great goals and the positive things were two goals and the first 45 minutes of Jay.

"It was his first 45 minutes and he did well. He scored two good goals. That gives everyone a positive feeling about tonight and for sure the same for Jay. "Also we had the first goal of Juanmi, the first goal of Cedric Soares. A lot of positive things, and the result is not the most important."
