Republic of Ireland out; Scotland to play Serbia in play-off final

The Republic of Ireland saw their hopes of qualifying for Euro 2020 come to an end after a penalty loss to Slovakia.

The two teams played out a tense goalless draw, but Slovakia emerged as winners after a 4-2 penalty shoot out success.

The Irish did have chances during the game, with the best one falling to Conor Hourihane. Alan Browne also hit the woodwork during the match.

Meanwhile, Scotland have moved to within one game of qualification after a 0-0 draw and penalty shootout win over Israel.

Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic scored in extra-time as Serbia claimed a dramatic 2-1 win over Norway.

The Scots will now take on Serbia on November 12, with the winner booking a spot in the European Championships.

Northern Ireland also won on penalties over Bosnia and will face Slovakia in the final play-off.
