Republic of Ireland coach Martin O'Neill has explained calling up Manchester United youngster Lee O'Connor.
The 18-year-old, who is still to make a first-team appearance at Old Trafford, was included in Martin O'Neill's squad to face Denmark on Monday night after John Egan withdrew through injury.
O'Connor, a full-back comfortable on either side, has made ten appearances for United's under-23 side this season and impressed Academy Director Nicky Butt so much that he called Roy Keane, Ireland's assistant manager, to give him the heads-up.
"He is a very impressive young lad as Nicky Butt said to Roy Keane about him," he said.
"He is a quiet guy who has done very well indeed.
"I've been impressed with him as a person and as a player.
"I think he has a very bright future. It is a great experience for him."
