Rennes ready to match Marseille contract offer to Arsenal defender David Luiz

Rennes have jumped into the battle for departing Arsenal defender David Luiz.

The Brazilian is leaving the Gunners as his contract expires at the end of the month.

Luiz has already met with Marseille coach Jorge Sampaoli in Rio and received a two-year contract proposal from OM supremo Pablo Longoria.

However, Le 10 Sport says Rennes are also keen. The club's new sporting director Florian Maurice is eager to make his mark and is aiming to trump Longoria to Luiz's signing.

Maurice and Rennes are now drawing up a two-year contract offer for Luiz's consideration as the veteran considers his next move.

The defender completed two seasons with Arsenal after arriving from Chelsea for the 2019/2020 season. For the last campaign, the 34 year-old managed 30 appearances, scoring four goals.

By accepting an offer from Rennes or Marseille, it would mark a return to France for Luiz. The stopper enjoyed two successful seasons at the Parc des Princes before returning to Chelsea for a second time in 2016.
